Tack v0.29.0: Hear the Other Side of Online Meetings

Tack
Tack Team

Until now Tack listened through your microphone, which is exactly right for a meeting held in a room. For a call, it only ever heard your half. Version 0.29.0 introduces capture of the other side of an online meeting, so the transcript and the driver both work from the whole conversation.

One Button, Mid-Meeting

  • Nothing Changes About How You Join: Keep using Google Meet, Teams, or Zoom exactly as you do today. When you want Tack to hear everyone, press the speaker button in the meeting controls and share the tab your call is in.
  • Still No Meeting Bot: Nothing joins your call and no one is told a recorder has arrived. Tack listens through your browser, as it always has.
  • Your Place Is Kept: Turning it on does not throw you out of Tack and into your meeting tab. You stay exactly where you were.

When Something Is Off, It Says So

  • The Easy Mistake, Named: Sharing a tab without ticking its audio box is the usual slip. Tack now tells you precisely that, while the meeting is still running and still fixable.
  • Honest About Browsers: The control only appears where it can actually work. Chrome and Edge can share tab audio; Safari and Firefox cannot, so Tack does not pretend otherwise.
  • Never Fatal: If sharing is declined, stops, or fails, the meeting carries on recording your microphone. Nothing is lost that would otherwise have been kept.

What It Means for the Record

  • Both Sides, Everywhere: Remote voices reach live captions, the outcome map, the post-meeting transcript, and the summary — not just one of them.
  • Headphones Optional: Capture is taken digitally rather than through the air, so it works with your output muted and does not double up what the microphone already heard.

One honest limit: this covers meetings running in a browser tab. Joining through the Zoom or Teams desktop app on a Mac stays outside what a browser is allowed to hear — open the call in Chrome and Tack will hear all of it.
